Now, as a volunteer coordinator, I would tell you, Yes! Get involved at your local church - they need you! And that is truth...But really, the one time a week serving isn't what we should be worrying about; it's the 6 days in-between that really matter. It is in these 6 days that we are on the mission field.
It is in the daily grind that we serve our Lord. It is in the weekly routines of babies, household chores, jobs that wear on us, activities that stretch us, and the unknown people that we come in contact with that are in need of our loving service. It is in these times we can be used to impact the Kingdom and be an invitation to check out Jesus!
I love it when God uses us in the most unconventional ways. You see, when we view our everyday life as a mission field it is amazing how He orchestrates schedules, conversations, and interactions to use us for His purpose. It is in these situations, in the down and dirty of life where we can share the love of Jesus and the change He has made in our lives. We can love on the most unlikely of sorts.
You see, God knew that some people would only come to see Him for who He really is through you and me. He knew that only a stay-at-home mom, school teacher, accountant, trash collector, or nurse or whatever you are could reach some people. He knew that only you, uniquely you, could draw those around you to Him.
THIS is our job, what we do for money is just a catalyst for Him to reach those who are hurting and in need of a Savior. We are ALL in full-time ministry.
as though God were making his appeal through us."
