I have read this verse for years; it is the scripture that supports all that Living Well Ministry is about. Most often, when I read this verse I think of all the things I should do to take care of myself; ultimately so I can live out God's purpose for me on this earth.
But as I have reflected on this verse over the past few months I realized what this verse actually requires.....obedience. I can make all kinds of plans to eat better, exercise more, and start taking better care of myself but if I don't commit those to The Lord I won't accomplish much. I certainly can't sustain my decision for long.
God tells us in His Word that He has plans for us, He wants to use us, daily. But all too often I am not on top of my game because I have not made a "clean break" from the things that weigh me down. I have allowed my flesh to dictate my actions, or lack there of, and this keeps me from His best.
What I have noticed is that so often we make choices that are keeping us from His best. We allow our flesh, what we want now, to dictate our choices....not the call to be fit and holy temples for the worship of God. We don't feel like exercising, we want that second helping, we watch that movie/read that book, we deprive ourselves of sleep, we have too much to drink or we can't pull ourselves away from technology.
We are making decisions that are cutting our lives short, that are impacting our daily performance, and that are killing our relationships out of a lack of obedience to the call. The call to break free from those things that bind us so our lives can represent Him well.
So what has been a struggle for you? Food, drink, exercise, sleep, what you watch/read, time on technology??
Today I want to ask you to take a "Clean Break" challenge. Ask The Lord what it is that you need to get rid of or add to your life that will draw you closer to being a "fit and holy temple." Then I ask you to commit that to HIm and begin to practice obedience in that area for 20 days. You will be amazed at what happens. When you obey His commands, He always shows up, He always supports, and He always gives you strength to complete the task! He will always honor obedience to His Word.
If you need some extra support, Elizabeth and i would love to pray for you during this challenge. Please feel free to let us know what you are committing to and we will cover you in prayer.
Here's to Living Well and becoming fit and holy temples for His worship!
