Today I found myself beginning to feel....not so patient with the unkind folks. I just wanted to shout out loud, "This is the season of Christ's birth! It's not about all the stuff and whether you can use your coupons!"
But then I am reminded of Proverbs 25:11 that says "A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver." Hmmmmm......I want my words to be aptly spoken. Exactly in the timing of Him. I want my mouth to represent a heart that is fully given over to Jesus.
In Matthew 15 Jesus is dealing, once again, with the Pharisees. He quotes Isaiah in verse 8 saying "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me."
This verse struck me the other day as I read it. I stopped and prayed for God to help me never to talk the talk and not walk the walk. I asked Him to help my heart be so close to Him, that what comes out of my mouth both honors and pleases Him. Isn't this what your heart desires?
The Pharisees knew the right things to say and the right things to do, but their hearts were anything but devoted to Christ. They didn't even recognize Him as the Messiah. If their hearts had been right...seeking God and His will, I think they would've known who Jesus was. Their hearts would've resonated with His words and the miracles.
So in this season of craziness, let's focus on our heart. What is in it? What are we filling it with? Is the Word precious to us? Are we craving time with Jesus? Are we mindful of Him and His voice or are we so crazy with all the "seasonal festivities" we hardly give Him notice?
I know I needed this reminder in my own life....I thought perhaps you could use it too. Be blessed and may our hearts be turned toward a Savior who loved us enough to come and give all He had to give so we could have eternal life. Thank you Jesus!
