One of my favorite verses in Isaiah 43 comes to mind at this time of the year.
"Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." Isaiah 43:18-19
Honestly, for me this year, I am happy to not dwell on the past. This year has had some disappointments and heartache. Some of you can relate, some of you feel as though you are in a wasteland or a desert. I pray this scripture brings you hope and joy in looking ahead.
God says, "I'm doing a new thing!" That statement gets me wondering, dreaming, and asking some questions. What will this new thing require of me? How will I be involved in what He's going to do? Will the obedience be hard? You see, He is looking to change us, to be more like Him, to be used more of Him for His purposes. He is wanting to take us out of the wasteland or do a new thing so our lives will have greater impact for eternity!
So, this morning I sat in the dark with the Christmas lights all aglow and just asked Him, "what do you want to change in me this year?" "Lord, what new thing are you wanting to do in me?" Then I sat and listened.
There have been some areas of my life where I know I need to tighten up my obedience. These areas came back to mind this morning when I asked what changes He wants to make. So, I will continue to listen and lay these areas out before Him in prayer; asking how the change needs to take place. What is my part in the change? How do we (I can't do it without Him) get to the new thing He is wanting to do in me? And I will begin to make some lists and make a plan of sorts.
Will my plan be in place and I know all the details of the blueprint by Thursday the 1st? Most likely, NO! But I will begin the process, meditate on the Word, and continue to ask the question, "What new thing are you going to do?" I want to encourage you to do the same thing. Spend time with Him, asking Him what He wants to do in you in the coming year. Not for the sake of a "resolution" but for His sake, for the Kingdom's sake.
So what New Thing is He going to do in you this year? He is waiting to meet with you today and share His heart for your life. He wants to be a part of every detail in 2015 and use you for eternity. Don't miss the opportunity!
Elizabeth and I want to wish you all a Happy New Year and we pray that God begins a New Thing in You!
