What I know is God has been gently showing me areas of my life where I am not disciplined, where I am lacking, where I've over committed, and where I am just plain lazy. I don't like to hear that much but that's the truth. He is pruning me, ever so gently like a farmer would prune his precious vine so as not to bruise the good fruit but to strengthen the branch. This stirring in my spirit is for my own good, for the strength of my "branch" or my life's impact.
Honestly, this pruning is not the hardest part for me. Realizing that this season is a shaking up from Him actually warms my heart that He is still working on me, He sees more potential in me. The hard truth that makes me squirm a bit is, now I have to decide to take action or not. The knowledge of these shortcomings do nothing but breed discontentment unless they spur me on to decide to change. And then to get busy.
Maybe you are in a similar season or maybe you have one area that feels like such a huge mountain to climb and you aren't sure you can put one foot in front of you. I want to encourage us today...He will not leave us in the challenge, He will not turn His back while we are climbing the mountain, He WILL be our guide; directing us each step of the way. Pruning and shaping us into the children He envisioned us to be. He doesn't wake us up to the need to change and then leave; His desire is we become more like Him and that ultimately our lives (our fruit) draw others straight to Him.
Now, where to start? Since I have a few areas where He wants to do some work I will need to make small, obtainable goals that don't overwhelm me and make me shut down altogether! I have to acknowledge the process takes time and, at times, it will be tough and painful. I will have to put my desires and flesh aside and do what I know He is asking of me...to be obedient.
Obedience is not always easy but the rewards are worth every effort we make!
I pray that if He is speaking to you about an area of your life that needs pruning, you will listen and obey; you will take action! Let this stirring in our spirit bring about real change in us so our life can be used by Him in powerful ways!
