Are you acting out of this belief?
What do I mean by that....I mean, do your actions, your words and your thoughts back up the belief that God is in control?
I have a friend who is battling colon cancer right now. She is going through grueling chemotherapy. She is very weak and very sick. I follow her facebook page closely to keep up on how she is doing. By reading her posts, I am convinced she believes God is in control. Every post speaks of what reality is, she is not in denial land.....but every post is also a declaration of Who God is, how faithful He is and how much she loves Him.
A few years ago God spent the entire year teaching me His heart on this. His message to me was this...."Elizabeth, if you are going to say you believe I am in control, then I want your actions to back it up." In other words....live like you believe I am in control. Notice it took a year for this truth to be written on my heart. I'm a slow learner sometimes!
I'm certainly not suggesting this is always easy. It's hard to act like God is in control when you are hurting and in pain, your finances are in ruins, a diagnosis comes, a job is lost, a child walks away from faith or when your marriage is in shambles. But guess what....in the midst of all these things...God is still in control.
When it comes to our life, God is never up in heaven scratching his head thinking, "Wow, I didn't see that one coming!" He is "all knowing" and always engaged with what is going on.
Nothing slips by Him.
Whatever it is you are facing or about to face.....ask yourself...."how do I want others to see my situation? How do I want to respond to what I am facing? What impact do I want my life to have on others as I walk through this?"
My friend is at home in bed but her life is having huge impact....I read her posts and I am encouraged and drawn to the Father. She is giving Him glory even in her greatest trial. Only by His grace can she do this as it comes from the belief inside her heart that He really is in control. It's not a "Christian" thing to say.....its a truth we can build our life upon.
When life happens, like it does for all of us, we can be a testimony of what it looks like to believe....and others will be filled with hope that, they too, can experience God and His power in tough times.
It comes down to a choice. Am I going to choose to act like God is in control of my situation or am I going to give in to all my fleshly feelings and fears. Perhaps it will help to remember....there are folks watching and waiting to see if "this God you speak of" is enough for you. Let them watch and see that He certainly is...more than enough!
