This week my desire for comfort collided with this quote:
let me ask myself if I love him." Elizabeth Elliot
Have my decisions lately shouted out who He is to me, how I feel about Him, how much I want to live for Him? Or have they screamed "It's all about me!" and have they shown how much I live for myself and my own pleasure?
So, I ask myself "if I love Him" enough to:
- extend Grace
- not have the last word
- exercise and take care of myself
- not have one more bite or drink
- have that hard conversation
- make a call and ask for forgiveness
- let it go
- love unconditionally
- respond with love
- tell the truth
- put my desires aside
There are two pieces at work here....listening to the Holy Spirit and filtering what He is asking of us through, "if I love Him."
I pray this perspective gives me strength and courage beyond myself in the coming days and weeks. May my answer always be a resounding, "YES!" and act accordingly with obedience to the call and not my flesh.
