A mother will go through hell and high water to protect her kids. Even in the animal kingdom you see this ferocity. It's God given. God inspired.
Mom's keep going, even when they are totally spent. They put their needs aside, a lot of the times, to make sure their child has what they need.
Sometimes I think there is nothing more powerful, outside of God Himself, than a mother's heart. A mother's heart can take the brunt of harsh words, selfish actions, and immature behavior. She can love in spite of these things. She can stay steady in the turmoil of a child's confusion. Steady and strong. Her love never changing. Never swaying. Heart aching but loving still.
God often whispers to me, "I love him/her more than you do." I know this is true. I know the love and tenacity to stay faithful to my children has come from Him. Because that is how He loves me. Steady, strong, faithful, loving. It's all these attributes of God that He pours into a woman's heart to love her children.
Where ever you might me today in your mothering journey, I just want to say "good job". Whether you are nursing a newborn, potty training a toddler, schooling a grade schooler, carrying a junior higher through all the pre-teen emotions, crying at a high school graduation, dancing with your son at his wedding...you have done well. That ache in your heart is shared by every mother on the planet. That split feeling of joy and sadness is a common denominator between all us mothers out there.
How can we feel such joy and such ache at the same time? Only a mother knows that blissful, painful feeling.
Happy Mother's day this Sunday....celebrate the heart of motherhood. And to all you gals out there who may not have birthed a child, but have loved with a mother's heart a child, at any age, who needs a mother's love...Happy Mother's day to you. You are a mother...don't let anyone tell you any different!
