The truth is, God's word is very clear on this issue:
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (Amplified):
"Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received (as a gift) from God? You are not your own, you were bought with a price (purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own). So, then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body."
Did you catch that? My body is the sanctuary or the temple of the very spirit of the living God! The definition of temple is this: "a building devoted to the worship of God or regarded as the dwelling place of God." You see, it is not my own....He created it, He has a plan for it, and it was paid for with a high price. Therefore, (because of this) I must honor Him with my body....I must devote my body to the worship/service of God.
Now, before I go any further, let me be clear......this is not about a size or a number on a scale. This is about a mindset, a determination to live in a particular way (with restraint) to bring honor and glory to the God of my salvation. A mindset that will allow me to live life to the fullest and to fulfill the purpose God has placed me on this earth to do. If I am tired, sluggish, and not feeling well, I can NOT live to the fullest for Him or for those around me.
So, what do we do with this mindset in this area? I am certainly not suggesting that we live with more rules or "do not's" in this area......I want us to live free of any guilt. This is about renewing our mind that it aligns with the Father. Romans 12:2 tells us, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will." When we ask God to show us a new revelation, He will show up every time and help us achieve the restraint we need to meet His good, pleasing and perfect will for us.
When you frame your daily life around honoring Him, that your body is not your own....it's easier to live with restraint and make choices that will bring health and life to your body.
In the coming weeks we will talk more about what this looks like in everyday life and how we are striving to live a life that honors Him in the area of taking care of our temple. So I encourage you to ask Him to show you a new revelation this week regarding your health and the care of your temple and share with us where you are going to begin work!
