"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
Just a couple of days ago I had an outpatient surgery where I had to be put to sleep. Honestly, that is not what I prefer....I like to at least perceive that I'm in control of my own breathing. The thought of it actually made me anxious with the need to breath deep, and an overall feeling of stress! Somehow, this felt worse to me than the actual procedure and possible results! As the day came closer I shared with a few close friends and asked them to pray for me.....mainly for peace.
Wed, and Thursday were mostly normal days except for several anxious moments where I'd let my mind go and begin worrying about the whole situation. Thursday evening I spent some time reading over these scriptures and really asking God for complete trust in Him and His peace. Friday morning came and when I woke I had a sense of calm and peace that settled through my soul. Just like that mentioned in Philippians. As time grew closer there were moments I could feel fear and anxiety come over me and the Holy Spirit would quickly remind me of these two scriptures. When I'm praying or using a scripture to remind myself about God's promises, I always put my name into the scripture. So, I would say out-loud....."Don't panic Tracie, I've got a firm grip on you and I'm not letting go!"
You see, God's word is like a two edged sword that can cut through fear and worry and at the same time it can be a healing balm where it soothes a frightened heart. I'm so thankful for God's word and what it can do for us.....in EVERY situation. I'm also so grateful for friends and family who believe in the power of prayer and who stood on my behalf this week....He leaned in, He listened, He kept a firm grip, He gave me peace to guard my heart and mind....He settled my soul.
I know He will do the same for you!
