The trip was great...but not without opportunity to choose how I was going to respond in a "not too wonderful" of a moment. For instance.....flight canceled, stuck in Philly, lost baggage.....sitting and waiting for the bag to be found. I hear the Holy Spirit whisper "Be joyful always, give thanks in every circumstance."
Here's the thing about internalizing Scripture....if you do it, prepare for it to rise up in you in the moments you don't necessarily want to hear it, but definitely need to.
I knew this was part of a verse I had put to memory....but I couldn't remember exactly where it was in the Word. I reached for the notebook where I keep the verses I'm memorizing and found it. I Thess. 5:16-18 "Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances , for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus."
Guess what happened as I read and re-read that verse......my heart relaxed, my mind settled, perspective came.....and my joy came back. Oh...I wasn't doing cartwheels in the airport....let me be clear! But the Word simply did what it does so well....it helped me and strengthened me to do what I was supposed to do.
Sean and I talked at the end of our trip about why some of these things happened to us....we came to the conclusion they were simply opportunities for us to practice what we believe. To put into action the Word.....to do what God has challenged us to do. Simple as that.
As you face your week.....keep in mind...God may just allow things to happen so you have the opportunity to practice His Word and His calling on your life. Be honored by it....you serve a living God who cares enough about you that He wants you to grow and become more like Him!
And that, my friend, is wonderful news!
