As parents we have a powerful tool the Lord has given us...prayer. James 5:16 states, "The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results." (NLT) The great news is He is listening to our heart's desire for our children. He wants to be active in their lives! It is a privilege to get to talk with the Lord and speak our fears, hopes and desires for our children.
Another tool we have been given to support our prayers is the Word. Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper then any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow: it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." There is nothing more effective than praying the Word over our children. When I pray, I place my children's names in the scripture so it becomes real to them and their life. Sometimes, we just don't know what to pray...the Word is all we need - use it!
Honestly, there are times I dread dropping Emma off at school....I feel like she is bombarded daily with ideas and thoughts that are contrary to what Kevin and I are trying to instill in her about God and who He is and how He should be the center of her life. However, I know that my prayers will make a difference in her life, that the Word is sharp, that she is fully protected under God's care and love. These prayers bring me assurance that He is in control and He has her in His grasp.
So, our job is to pray. We can use the Word as our guard and shield, and fully trust the Lord. For some, your children are just babies.....start now! For some, your little ones are just starting Pre-K and others going to college and for others, you now have Grandchildren. It doesn't matter the age, just begin to pray, use the Word and watch how God provides!

Here's one of my favorites you can start off your prayerful beginning this year:
"For I know the plans I have for (Emma/Ashley/your child's name), declares the Lord, plans to prosper you not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."
Please feel free to leave your children's names in a comment and Elizabeth and I would love to pray for them!
