Kind of a silly question. Of course you have. Who has not had the unexpected happen in their life?
- An unexpected phone call
- An unexpected bill
- An unexpected pregnancy
- An unexpected gift
- An unexpected promotion
- An unexpected diagnosis
- An unexpected job loss
- An unexpected death
- An unexpected incident with your child
- An unexpected visit from someone
How do we respond to the unexpected happenings in our life? How does God want us to respond?
Notice I used the word respond, instead of react. The difference between responding and reacting is one comes out of a security that God is in control and the other comes out of fear and doubt.
Nothing ever happens unexpectedly to God. He is always aware of what is around the corner in our life. He is working, even when we are unaware, preparing us for what is coming. I am comforted by Psalms 3:21-26. I love it in the Message...
Dear friend, guard Clear Thinking and Common Sense with your life; don’t for a minute lose sight of them. They’ll keep your soul alive and well, they’ll keep you fit and attractive. You’ll travel safely, you’ll neither tire nor trip. You’ll take afternoon naps without a worry, you’ll enjoy a good night’s sleep. No need to panic over alarms or surprises, or predictions that doomsday’s just around the corner, Because God will be right there with you; He’ll keep you safe and sound.
"No need to panic over alarms or surprises." The unexpected. Why? "Because God will be right there with you; He'll keep you safe and sound."
I don't know what unexpected thing you are facing today. But I want to encourage you it was NOT unexpected to God. He has a plan to get you through whatever you are facing with peace, rest, and victory. No matter what it is.
