"Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law"
I came across this verse the other day in Proverbs and I had written a note to myself next to it. The note said "This is why I stayed overweight for so long." You see....I lived in denial for a long time about my eating habits. Finally, my strong will allowed God to speak and thankfully I listened. What God spoke to me was "revelation". His revelation. It wasn't rocket science....it was really simple. I'm sure He was trying to get my attention for a long time, but was I listening? No.
When I was finally in a place where I was willing to listen, He spoke these words to me. "Elizabeth, you eat past what you need every time you eat." Revelation. It hit me hard between the eyes and I could not ignore it.
When God gives us revelation, a lot of the time conviction follows. This is what happened to me. He gently, and lovingly brought conviction to my heart. As He drew me to repent, I felt, for the first time, I had the answer to my weight issue.
With this revelation of "eating past my need when I ate" came a restraint in me. Along with the restraint came a recognition of when I had eaten enough. You see....God never gives us revelation....and then says "See ya later! You are on your own child!" No! He sticks around and helps us recognize when we are about to sin and then anoints us with restraint so that we stay in His will. It's a BEAUTIFUL collaboration!
So how about you? Where do you struggle with restraint? God is available.....in a HUGE and BEAUTIFUL way for you today. Ask Him for revelation, so you can have recognition and then restraint. Your life will change!
