In our everyday life we will, at times, really mess up. We will say and do things that are hurtful to ourselves and/or to other people. We will make decisions that are detrimental to our health or to our relationships.
As I was reflecting on the past couple of weeks, I have realized that I have really blown it in the area of taking care of myself. I know how to fuel my body, how to fit in exercise, and how to make healthy decisions. I know when the Holy Spirit is prompting me to walk away, stop eating past my need, to not partake of something, or to get out and burn some calories and relieve stress. Lately, I have been ignoring the Spirit's prompting in this area.
Typically you might not think of health as a spiritual issue....let me assure you it is. When I am not feeling good about myself and sluggish from my poor decisions, my ability to love on and care for others is impacted greatly. God can't use me to the fullest when my body is not running at an optimum!
I am not writing this to add more guilt or more rules.....I am writing because after my reflection and talking with the Lord; I have a grateful heart for God's patience and second (3rd, 4th.....) chances!
You see, it is the condition of my heart He is looking for. Am I prideful or repentant? Do I continue on this path and willfully ignore the Holy Spirit's leading or do I genuinely make an effort to change my actions?
The beauty is, He's a loving Father who is eager to lend a hand, to assist us in getting up and trying again. We are going to make mistakes.....painful errors at times. In Psalm 73:26 it states, "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
So maybe you have used your words to tear down another, you have fought with a vengeance, you have made poor choices financially, emotionally, or physically that are not those of a Christ follower. The GOOD NEWS is we can be forgiven and move forward.
Let's stop dwelling on the mistake or poor choice and rejoice in our second chances! Let's take the necessary steps to move forward in Him.
- Ask forgiveness from anyone we have sinned against and from our Father
- Ask the Lord to help us make better choices and to set boundaries. He has to be in the middle of it all in order for lasting change to take place.
Proverbs 16:9 "We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it."
Now, move on as a child of God....blessed, forgiven, and with a clean slate!
