Why do I/we do this!? It is maddening but it seems to creep in often and my sense of who I am is deflated and, at times, shattered by comparison. I believe this thought of comparison that we woman go through is from the enemy. You see, it's really not a new scheme....he used it with Eve to make her feel like she was not enough. Subtly telling her she didn't have enough or wasn't enough with what God had given her. It's his act of deception that gets us every time.
So how do we combat this mind game EVERY day? The Word...it is sharper than any two-edged sword and it has power beyond his schemes! God's Word should be our only measuring stick of how we are doing on this journey.
Here are a few verses to pray over yourself and to put to memory so when the comparison game starts you can "take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ."
- You are created perfectly by His plan: Psalm 139:14 "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful."
- Comparing ourselves is destructive: Proverbs 29:25 "Fear of human opinion disables, trusting in God protects you from that." (MSG)
- Keep your mind on the good things He has for you: Philippians 4:8 "Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things.....and the God of peace will be with you."
Here's to a day full of thinking great things about ourselves.....and marveling in the wonder that we are. Beautiful and lovely creations of the King!
