Good beyond our human comprehension.
His goodness lacks nothing we need. It is enough to fill in the gaps of a troubled marriage, a shattered dream, a broken and abusive past, or an event that might as well have taken your life, because emotionally you feel dead inside.
Psalms 34:8 invites us to, "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him."
How do we taste and see?
We take refuge. That's how.
His goodness is a powerful, protective shelter. Nothing, and I mean nothing, can penetrate it from the outside. It is an impregnable fortress that surrounds us from all sides. This haven is what He invites us to come into when He asks us to "Taste and see that I am good."
God knows what life can do to us. It can beat us up, leaving us bruised and broken on the side of the road. Nothing or no one can take a beat up life, pick it up, dust it off, invite it into His goodness and make it something new, like God can. He makes it worth living. Makes it valuable and effective. Makes it a vision for others to look at and "see that the Lord really is good."
Inside His goodness you will find all you need to live your life with joy. Your circumstance, your past, your current situation, does not get a "say so" in whether or not you have joy.
But His goodness does.
When you choose, and it is a choice, to live in His goodness - you are complete. You lack for nothing. You don't have life all figured out, it is certainly not perfect, trouble and pain are still daily companions - but God is good in it all. His goodness, when it envelops you in its arms, reminds you of Whose you are and where you belong.
You don't have to wait for life to be perfect, everything in order, all to be healed in order to find rest. You have access to it already, if only you will take refuge in it...His goodness.
Would you pray this prayer with me?
Dear Lord...Your Word invites me to taste and see that You are good and today I choose to take refuge inside your goodness. I am not going to wait to experience Your joy until life is perfect. I reach out right now, I sit in Your sweet presence and let Your goodness fill every gap in my life. I declare Who you are in me and I worship You as Lord of all the earth. Thank You Jesus ... I love You more than words could ever say. Amen.
