That afternoon I sent out an email to the gals on our street stating, "Ladies, the door will be open at 6:30am and the coffee will be hot - let's get together and pray for our marriages and children." From that day, a small group of us have met every other week at 6:30am to agree in prayer for the lives of our families and friends.
That was almost 5 years ago now and just this morning we met again. Due to schedules and summer breaks we had been away for over a month. As we all settled in to our usual places there was such a sweet spirit and comfort with these women. We know each other so well. This group of ladies has loved, encouraged, cried, laughed, celebrated, and cheered on each other in all the valleys and mountain tops this life can bring. We have lived life with each other through graduations, grand-babies, illnesses, death of parents, job changes, and moves.
As we finished praying for our families and friends my heart was full. My life has been changed by these women and their faith.....I am stronger and I can stand steady when a storm comes knowing they are in their corner seeking the Lord on my behalf. And every other week when we get together to bend our knee to the Father, the sisterhood that has been established wraps us in warmth like a quilt to shied us from the outside world.
Prayer is amazing. It touches the heart of God and I truly believe He leans in to listen to us. But what I have learned over the last 5 years is that prayer also changes us, touches our hearts and binds us together in a way that no other act can do within a friendship.
So, I urge you to consider opening your home or meeting with some friends to pray yourselves through this crazy thing we call life. The Father will be honored and you will be blessed beyond measure! Go ahead.....make a prayer connection!
