Over the weekend, my youngest daughter was given the opportunity to serve, for the first time, on a worship team. She was discussing this opportunity with her Aunt and she made such a simple, yet profound statement. She said, "Well, I love playing music and I love God, so I decided to put them together!"
She stated this so "matter-of-fact" and I wondered if most of us have thought about it like this. Find what I love and put it together with my love for God and do something for Him. Or are we serving for other reasons? Or are we not serving at all?
Are we serving because someone guilt-ed us into it? Are we serving because it looks good? Are we serving because we think our salvation is secured through works? Or are we simply serving because we love Jesus and it's an act of worship to Him?
In our teaching we are often learning about what we gain or the benefits of our Christianity, and not enough of, what can I do to love this Jesus of mine?
It's out of our love for Him we are compelled to serve those who cross our path. It is our love for Him that drives us to put others first. We want to follow His model and servant's heart out of our deep adoration for Jesus.
- Mark 10:45 "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
- 2 Corinthians 4:5 "For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake."
- Galatians 5:13 "For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another."
- Colossians 3:23-24 "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ."
It's simple really....if we Love Jesus then we will follow His model and serve others. Out of our love and thanksgiving, we will give of our life as an offering to Him.
So, what do you love to do or what are you passionate about that can "Go Together "with your love for Him? It doesn't have to be inside the walls of the church....Jesus most often did His loving and serving outside the walls of the church. The ways to serve are truly endless. Take your gifts and passions and intentionally use them today, not for your own glory or enjoyment but as an act of worship to Him.
Please share with us how you serve Jesus through your passion....your service just might give another reader an idea of how they too can serve!
