Research now shows us that we can learn and grow and become people with a variety of new skills! Now we are told our brains are much more plastic than originally thought; we can create new skill sets and neural pathways. Much of this change depends on our mindset.
People with a "fixed" mindset tend to believe they can't learn new things, they look at mistakes as failures, and they make decisions based on their perceived skill set. People with a "growth" mindset see new skills and think "I am going to try that," they believe they can learn new skills, mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow, and they reach goals and a much higher potential.
When I heard this information I immediately thought....this is nothing new to God! He tells us this very thing in His word. Here is how the Word addresses a "growth" mindset:
- "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17
- "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Romans 12:2
- "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
You see when we filter everything through Christ and His word.....our mindset can be full of Hope and encouragement! Will I make mistakes or poor choices on the journey? Of course I will but I need to view those as learning and growing opportunities....renewing my mind every step of the way.
Is there something new your are trying this January? I want to encourage you to lean in to Him, trust Him in the way He created your mind....ask Him to renew your thinking. When you go back to the old thoughts of "I can't" I want you to "take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5).....recite the scriptures above to yourself and walk in obedience to the new creature you are becoming!
We would love to hear about the new things you are trying!
