In our mind, emotions, and body God desires whole, holy health. Not partial health. Not of this world kind of health. Whole, complete in every way, health. Holy, as God designed in the beginning, health.
What does wholly health really mean? It means to be healthy as God intended in all areas of our life. In order to be healthy in a whole sense, we can't ignore certain parts of our health. We can't expend a lot of energy in taking care of our emotional health and ignore our physical and spiritual health. We can't be disciplined in our eating and exercise and put off dealing with emotional wounds that are causing us harm. We can't be diligent in seeking the Lord and doing His work yet not respect our bodies in what we consume.
God wants our spiritual, emotional, and physical health to all be whole...wholly healthy. All three areas of our life are important. All three have tremendous impact on our joy, our outlook on life, and the influence we have on those around us. God wants all three to be under the control of His Holy Spirit.
In I Thessalonians 5:23 it says this..."May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Paul doesn't exhort us to have "part" of ourselves kept blameless....but our "whole" spirit soul, and body.
What about being "Holy" healthy. A lot of the time we don't make our health a spiritual issue. Obviously our spiritual health is a spiritual issue to us, but what about our physical and emotional health?
How often have you tried to change your lifestyle, be happy instead of sad, stop drinking soda or eating junk food, or ignore what happened in your past....all on your own will power? How did that go for you? Like with me, I'm sure it didn't go well. It never does when we leave Jesus out of the equation.
We need His holiness and power to change our life in these areas. He tells us how to do this in Romans 12:1..."Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God- this is your spiritual act of worship."
Offer our bodies. Offer up. Give in. Surrender to.
So many of us struggle, day after day, with habits, painful memories, addictions, and shame. It is not God's plan for us. It never was.
He wants us free. He wants us holy. He wants us whole.
Are you wholly, holy healthy?
